Google Shoppable Image Ads: A New Outlet For E-commerce Advertising
Back In September 2018, Google announced a new ad format for retail and brand advertisers that would deliver a new shopping experience on third party sites and Google Image Search. A recent study showed that 50% of online shoppers are motivated to purchase after seeing the item in an image. Thus, Google is now turning to Google Image Search to offer Shoppable Image Ads, a new solution for online shoppers who want to browse visual content prior to purchasing.
What Are Shoppable Image Ads?
Imagine scrolling through Google image results looking for house decor inspiration and you stumble across a picture of the perfect living room. With Shoppable Image Ads, you will now be able to hover over the various items available for sale in the image and immediately pull information regarding price, where to purchase, brand, shipping, etc.
See below for an example of how shoppable image ads will appear.
What Does This Mean For E-Commerce Business Owners?
Shoppable Images creates an opportunity to get your products in front of the eyes of targeted audiences and provide shoppers with a seamless purchasing experience. This also allows E-commerce businesses to reach shoppers where they’re looking for more visual inspiration. According to Google, a third of shoppers search for images online before going out to do holiday shopping. Shopping Image Ads eliminate the extra step leading to a sale. Shoppable Image Ads are currently being tested with a small number of select retailers. Google plans to roll this feature out across more categories over the next few months.
